Water treatment

Water treatments are applied in different areas and with different technologies, depending on the type and degree of water pollution and the use that is going to be given to it. Some examples of water treatments are:

• Softening: consists of removing the hardness of the water, that is, the concentration of calcium and magnesium salts that cause the formation of scale in the pipes and appliances, reducing their performance and useful life. The most common method is the salt softener, which exchanges calcium and magnesium ions for sodium ions through a resin. There are also electronic softeners, which emit electrical impulses that modify the molecular structure of the water and prevent the adherence of salts.
• Reverse osmosis: consists of passing the water through a semipermeable membrane that retains impurities and dissolved substances, such as heavy metals, chlorine, pesticides, bacteria or viruses. In this way, a pure and high quality water is obtained, ideal for drinking or cooking.
